Mit Radiohead-Frontmann Thom Yorke an Gesang, Gitarre und Piano, Flea von den Red Hot Chili Peppers am Bass, Radiohead-Produzent Nigel Godrich an Gitarre, Keyboard und Synthies, Joey Waronker von Beck und R.E.M. am Schlagzeug und Mauro Refosco an den Percussions veröffentlicht die Super(star)group Atoms For Peace, die sich schon 2009 in Los Angeles zusammenfand, ihr Debütalbum »Amok« am 22. Februar.

Kurz & bündig: Am 5.2.2013 erscheint das X-te Album der EELS und wir können es uns schon mal gemeinsam anhören: You know what? I’m in a good mood today.
Zum wunderhübschen Video „Little Talks“ und den Wohnzimmeraufnahmen von Of Monsters and Men gesellt sich hier bei Mittelstern nun das komplette Album „My Head Is An Animal“ bei NPR im Stream. Viel Lalalala, viel Hey!, viel Schwung, viel Wechselgesang, viel Schwelgen und trotzdem eigenartig eintönig. Starke Lieder wie „Little Talks“, „Love, Love, Love“ und „Sloom“ sind und bleiben definitiv noch eine ganze Weile in meiner Playlist, der Rest geht leider ziemlich unter.
Jonathan Dagan, Künstlername J.Viewz, ist seit Mitte der Nuller Jahre (äh, bäh) aktiv und bisher überhaupt nicht auf meinem Radar, bis ich durch Zufall dieses Video mit Herzchenblick betrachtete und unauffällig mitgroovte:
Wenige Rechercheminuten später höre ich mich durch vermeintliche Café Del Mare Compilations und fand deutliche Referenzen zu Zero 7 oder Moloko. Aber nur bei den alten Sachen (BandcampStream). Ein bisschen weniger loungig geht’s da schon beim aktuellen Album Rivers and Homes (BandcampStream) zu, allerdings verleitet das auch mächtig zum Wegdriften. Die bösen Wortschöpfungen Dreampop & Chillwave linsen um die Ecke und werden im Video mit den richtigen Farben und Motiven noch untermalt. Unaufgeregte, leichte Platte, die ich gern mal live umgesetzt sehen würde und vielleicht besser im Frühling nochmal intensiv gehört werden sollte.
Am 19.7. veröffentlichen Portugal. The Man ihr neues Werk namens In The Mountain In The Cloud und hier bei 3VOOR12 kann man es sich anhören. Bin gespannt, wann sie das nächste Mal in Dresden sind – bei Facebook haben sie in letzter Zeit mehrere Fotos von ihren Tourstopps hier gepostet, ich werte das als gutes Zeichen ;-) Wer die alten Platten nochmal komplett hören will, kann sich bei Soundcloud durchklicken.
So viele Herzen gibt es gar nicht, wie ich sie momentan gern verteilen würde für all die schöne Musik da draußen.
Stars aus Kanada mag ich schon ganz schön lange, immer wieder schwirren ihre Lieder dank bestimmter Textzeilen und/oder Mitwipp-Melodien durch meinen Kopf, so auch heute. Und ::: schwupps ::: veröffentlicht die Band The Bedroom Demos und schreibt dazu:

In the big deep winter of Montreal, 2006, STARS were drunk.
Two years had been spent carousing the globe, with ‚Set Yourself On Fire‘ in their hands. Home again, they drove the van to a neighbourhood studio to play through some songs they were already planning to record again – in the future, all the way across the tundra, months later – in sun-addled British Columbia. …
The studio was Breakglass, run by a dear friend named Jace Lasek, of the band The Besnard Lakes. At that time still a shitbox construction site on the north side of Montreal, Breakglass afforded STARS a refuge from the road, and a steady windowsill to pile up wine bottles. The songs came in bursts, were tracked quickly, given working titles like ‚Flack‘ and ‚Fuck U I Love You‘ and stored one by one in the hallway with the other boxes of tapes. Minds were lost, found again; arguments claimed teeth and nails – love got spit and wrangled back. The band once more became a band and pulled verses from the fumes, bridges from beneath their feet. …
In the spring of 2011, much had changed for the band. Parents had been lost and made, homes left behind and built anew. On a break from touring their new record, ‚The Five Ghosts‘ the band reached back and remembered an affinity with the Breakglass sessions – ‚Barricade‘ recorded with one microphone, an epic solo on ‚My Favourite Book‘. Jace found the tapes, wine lined the windowsill for a weekend, and the demos finally found their way out of the studio.
